Quick Survey

A quick survey for the East Devon Local Plan

We appreciate many people are very busy and may not have time to look through the lengthy draft Local Plan and all the questions we ask.

So we have created this quick survey for those with less time but who still want to have their voices heard.

We ask some simple questions about some big issues that will affect future development in East Devon and also about how we protect and enhance our outstanding assets.

Have your say below

1. Where should new homes and jobs go – the big picture?

The Government require us to plan for around 20,500 extra homes in East Devon (1,040 a year) for the period of 2020 to 2040.

There are already planning commitments to build lots of these homes but for the others our big approach is to:

  • Plan for another new town (a second one after Cranbrook) to accommodate a large part of this growth

  • Plan for quite large numbers of homes at our biggest towns

  • Plan for more modest development at small towns and larger villages

  • Plan for low levels of housing at smaller villages and in the countryside.

Around half of the planned growth would be close to Exeter on the western side of our District and employment and jobs growth would follow a similar pattern

2. Striking the right balance

It is understandable that different people will have different priorities and in the Local Plan, when we think about future development and protecting our assets, we have tried to find the right balance between what might be seen as competing objectives.

To help us, and to see if we have got the balance right, can you select what is most important to you below.

3. Homes for all

In the ideal world everyone would have the perfect home to live in, meeting all their needs and desires.

How important do you think the following are?

4. The future of jobs and employment

There have been a lot of new jobs created in East Devon in recent years but also job losses and changes in the kind of work people to do and where they do it.

Many of the new jobs, especially in higher skill areas, have been close to Exeter and we are planning for more in this area but also want to support jobs across the rest of East Devon.

Thinking about the future of jobs in East Devon please rank the following considerations in your priority order and what you would like to see.

Please drag and move the boxes into priority order, with your top preference at the top and bottom at the bottom.

5. A changing climate and how East Devon may respond

In our Local Plan we set out policies that seek to support energy efficiency, green new buildings and renewable energy generation. But where do you think the priorities should lie?

6. Protecting and enhancing our environment

We think East Devon is an exceptional place to live and has a truly outstanding environment.

We have policies in our plan that seek to protect and enhance our natural and built environment but how important do you think it is?

Please give us your views on the following statements.

Your response to our quick survey will give us real valuable feedback to see if we have got our priorities right and have struck the right balance in the plan.  We will report on the answers we receive.
